Here's What We Can Do - - -
Jaena and I got our blogging heads together this morning to come up with a plan that we could do to help JoEllen now that the triplets have come home.
Here's what we came up with: frozen main dishes and restaurant gift cards.
JoEllen's parents will be traveling to Ohio on Thursday, and they will take the first batch of meals with them then. If you want to participate please contact Jaena or myself and let us know. We will try to ensure there is a variety of types of casseroles/main dishes.
Main Dish Guidelines:
1) Make them in a disposable dish which won't need to be returned.
2) Clearly label on the outside what kind of dish it is.
3) On the label indicate cooking instructions.
4) Either freeze it yourself or get it to us by Wednesday morning.
5) Deliver the finished casserole to Jeana - I don't have a freezer.
6) If you want to participate, but can't make this deadline, we will send another batch later.
Gift Cards:
1) The purpose is to give the Hummels some dining options.
2) You may mail them directly to the Hummels.
3) You may deliver them to Keetha or Jaena and we'll see that they get delivered.

I posted a link to your blog so the word will (hopefully) get around. I'm so excited! :)
Keetha, where are all of your "regulars"? No comments or offers to help yet? C'mon everyone (or at least those of you in Marion), double your dinner tomorrow night and freeze one for the Hummels. :)
I love this idea, and want to help. Do we know what kind of restaurants are available close to where they are in Ohio? I'm not sure where they live, exactly (I know that too much info on the Net is a tricky thing) . . . but can anyone give me some ideas beyond Mickey D's and KFC? Let me know, and I'll buy something here in Columbus to send along. Thanks!
I have not heard a word either - - - I was hoping you had.
I already decided if we don't get a bit more response by tomorrow that I will do two meals for the Thursday delivery.
Joel - - - I don't know what restaurants might be near them - - - but I was thinking of some "safe" things like Taco Bell and KFC - - - and then maybe Applebees or Outback for nicer places. Seems to me that in this day and age nearly every type of restaurant is SOMEWHERE within driving distance - - -
Thank you to BOTH of you for your help and encouragement.
BTW Jaena, SOMEBODIES have seen this post 'cause there have been 58 visitors to my site today - - - and MOST of those from Indiana. Maybe they are all just making plans before letting us know what they want to fix. ;-)
Here's my update: Claire Allison is making a Pot Pie, and Julie Lamb wants to get in on the next trip because she has a sick child.
I am making two meals too, so we will have a nice group to send. Jim likes it when we send meals to people because it means I actually COOK and we have a real meal too. :)
So, what two dishes will you be making to send?
I'm SOOOO glad to hear this update!!!
I made (and froze) homemade Mac & Cheese and I will make a chicken casserole tonight...probably with noodles.
OK - - - I'm on my way to the grocery store right now - - - I'm planning to make a spaghetti casserole and a Santa Fe Chicken with Rice and Beans.
I wish I were closer to y'all . . . I'd whip up an extra big batch of something from a Thursday Table and send it along. Thanks for thinking this up, though — you two have wonderful kind spirits. Quite the inspiration for a cranky selfish guy like me. : D
Joel - - I'm guessing you are the Joel who is Jaena's twin. Thanks for the compliments - - - and the greatest compliment of all is leaving comments on our blog!!!
BTW - - - I look ALL THE TIME for a new Thursday's Table. Hint hint.
;-)
Well, Keetha, I'm not too good with new year's resolutions, but one of my goals for 2007 is blogging that's a little more regular. : D
You Go - - - Joel!!! :-)
I just got word of your project - sounds great! However, I'm not going to make the deadline for Wed. morning, so I'll get in on the next trip. Your hashbrown casserole sounded wonderful - I need the recipe because it sounds like something my kids would eat and that I could eat without getting sick!
Kari - -
1 bag of frozen shredded hashbrowns (not the pre-browned kind - sometimes I like to use the O'Brian type for extra flavor) Microwave till tender
BINDER:
1 Can Cr. of Mushroom soup
8 - 10 oz sour cream
(4 oz cream cheese - optional)
chopped onion (I sprinkle in dry onion flakes - unless using the O'Brian variety potatoes - - -then you don't need any onion)
Salt & Pepper to taste
Blend all this thoroughly in a large mixing bowl.
Blend in the potatoes, 2 cups shredded cheese, and 1 to 1 1/2 C chopped ham.
Pour into a casserole bowl, top with shredded cheese
Bake at 350 for about 30 to 40 minutes until bubbly and browned.
Eat - - - YUMMY
Keetha,
Bonita said they would go again in two weeks, but I will verify the exact days. :)
Great!!! And - - - we should also probably make sure JoEllen will need more dishes by then - - - but I'm going to wait to ask her until AFTER we send this batch - - - in case she hasn't had time to check our blogs and this STILL ends up being a bit of a surprise. ;-)
Thanks for the recipe! Looks yummy :)
Mom...can I please have their address? Email it to me! I'm going to send something in the mail since I have no idea when I'll see you again.
P.S. Did you get your delivery from G&G Heavilin yet?
Yes - - - and THANK YOU for the La Char gift BD present!!!!!
I don't KNOW their address - - - but someone else will - - - - I'll track it down.
