Greg 'n Keetha Stuff

OK, let's be honest. This is really KEETHA stuff. Sometimes I write about Greg - - - but he has never in his life made one single post of his own. He has occasionally made a comment or two. So - - - come on in and visit with me, Keetha, for a while. I'd love it if you left your foot prints. (Interpretation: COMMENT PLEASE ;-)

Last Few "Minutes" of Freedom

Two weeks, two and a half days.

That's how long my Christmas vacation from school was. All I have left of it are tomorrow and Sunday.

Then it will be back to the proverbial grindstone.

I can't even begin to say how much I have enjoyed my freedom. I've had time to read, to sleep in, to watch a plethora of bowl games, and to do what I love best - - - - blog. All that will come to a screeching halt in about 54 hours and 59 minutes. Arghhhhhh!!!

Oh, I will still read - - - a few minutes before I fall asleep each night. I will still blog - - - a few minutes at 4 a.m. and a few more before falling into bed. I'll watch more football, but I will pay the PRICE for it in exhaustion the next day at school.

All good things must come to an end - - - - even Christmas Vacation. But I shall miss it.

Amen, sister. I have decided to go into mourning over the loss of freedom, although TRUE sleeping in wasn't in the cards for me. Probably won't be for the next few years. But I did get to read a book, and that was amazing.

That is just not right! We had a whole 11 days off of school....so no complaining! :) We have state exams on Thursday and Friday, then we have Martin Luther King day off, then T&W for exams and then 2 teacher work days. We get new classes the week after that since we're on the block schedule. Only 97 more school days till summer! Not that I'm counting! :)

We had our finals before Christmas - - - you don't EVEN want to know the stress THAT caused.

Obviously I don't teach for the pay - - - - but there are other reasons, and though it is quite a grindstone, I'm still supposed to be there. So away I go - - - - and I didn't really mean this as a lament - - - just a tiny whine.

We used to give all of our exams before Christmas, and I actually liked that better. The state started last year by mandating that we couldn't start school before August 25th, so now we have exams after Christmas. The kids came back from break and seemed to have forgotten everything I taught them! :( Oh well....it will be over soon. I'm glad you got such a long break. Those are always a great stress relief! :) By the way, what do you teach?

Science - - - - nearly all of it.

Shelli Rowley is back and teaching Jr. High Math at LCS - - - did you know that?

Let's see...that would be 529,200 seconds left. I don't blame you for doing a "tiny whiny".

BTW, was listening to our favorite radio prog "NPR" Science Friday and he mentioned that school teachers could go to their website NPR.org and click on Science Friday program and teachers could request materials for their classes. So interesting last nite!!!

Surprised you're not talking about Colts game today. Must turn it on later and will put on my "horsey" tee.

No, I didn't know Shelli was doing that. That's cool!

20 minutes before kick off. I shouldn't be this nervous about a game...but I am. I'm spending a few moments blogging to take my mind off of it.

Halftime run down -

Our defense is playing incredible. We are definitely in their offense's head.

Offense is playing well, but Peyton is making some questionable pass decisions, and we've had some stupid penalties.

2nd half - we MUST score on the first possesion - if we score a touchdown, I say game over. Then, their first offensive possession, even if we allow a score, we can't allow a big run play, giving L.J. confidence.

Sorry I'm rambling, but Jason's at the game, and I have noone to vent to. He isn't answering his cell. (I'm guessing it's a little loud there.)

Hey - - - you NEVER need to apologize to ME for talking football!!!

I think we can win this game - - - but we GOTTA stay in it.

I don't buy the self pity for one minute. You're one of the most energetic, well-organized, happiest people I've blogged with.

(I did wonder about some of those time stamps, though. So you really DO get up that early in the morning!)

Sorry that you have to go back, Keetha — though after many years as part of an entire family that operated on the academic calendar, I still get kinda cranky around the time summer starts, and around winter and spring breaks . . . even though I've been out of college for nearly 15 years! Of course, it's worse when I hear about my parents' and my aunt and uncle's travels.

So, I feel for you . . . but you get more time off than many of the rest of us do, right? ;-)

You know that I'm a Lakeview alum, don't you? Do you teach in the building that I knew as the "new high school building"?

I also found out last night that I worked for your dad for five or six years! (That sounds funny, but you know what I mean.) Who knew??

Yep, I think the LCS library has a shrine to Joel (ok, maybe it's just a plaque or something). And I am the one who "connected the dots" of your family for him (since I didn't know you were a Heavilin until this year).

Oh, nooooo . . . Is that plaque still there?!? I was hoping someone would have had the good sense by now to take that darn thing down!

We pulled them through, Keetha. Right after Hunter muffed the snap, Elizabeth flicked a light switch in our living room that is connected to no light, but it runs the plug in that our tv is connected to. By the time everything booted back up, I got to see the Colts recover the fumble. I was probably a little harsh with Elizabeth about playing around with things that aren't toys, but it WAS a crucial part in the game. But all is well now, and the kids are finally eating dinner. I am trying to put the house back together after leaving 3 kids (my niece was over) unsupervised for 3 1/2 hours.

And now - - - - just to "pad" my comment numbers, I'm going to answer each and every one of you - - - - one at a time!!! ;-)

Char - - - you are first!!!

Well, I do enjoy teaching school - - - and I do love my students. But, while it does appear that I am high energy, and I guess I am to some extent, that all comes at a high price. So - - - I've reveled in this down time. I've been lazy and replenished my energy supply. However - - - I wouldn't cry about a few more days of freedom.

And yes, Char, my time stamps are right. I get up at 4 (sometimes I allow myself to laze in bed until 4:15) have my devos, see what's happened in the blog world over night - - - post a comment or two to catch up - - - shower and head to school. I try to be there before 6, 5:30 if possible.

Joel - - - thanks for becoming a regular to my blog. I look forward to your comments and input!!!

Yes, John Heavilin is my dad. I'm sure you enjoyed working for him - - - there is only one of him on this planet!!!

About teacher's getting more time off - - - - - I know much of the world thinks that - - - - but I've been on both sides, and I'm not sure when it is all EVENED out that that is true. For one thing - - - we aren't paid for our summers. If we want a paycheck then we either have to teach summer school, or have our normal salary divided into twelve months.

Also - - - when I am IN school I literally have NO OTHER LIFE - - - no time for it. I squeeze blogging in at odd hours because it is a joy and a source of energy.

I did know you were an LCS alum - - - as Jaena and I have "bonded" since we are both here in Marion. I'll have to look in the library for the Joel Shrine. Don't feel bad - - - there are shrines to others in there too.

Deb - - - my selective memory has wiped Hunter's muffled snap right out. (Hehehehe)

Hey - - - I'd have been mighty upset if any of my family members unplugged my TV right during the game too - - - so I'm with ya on that!!!

I was pausing my TV and running up here to my computer through the whole game 'cause I was IMing with a cousin who lives in another part of the state - - - we were watching the game "together" in that way!!!
I need to watch EVERY game that way - - - loose a few pounds.

But - - - - GO COLTS!!! Our defense was AWESOME.

The hashbrown casserole sounded so good, that we ended up making it lastnight...and WOW was that yummy! We have a few leftover pieces for tonight.

Love ya

JoEllen - - - we're hoping to send at least one more "installment" - - - I have a couple other ideas - - - but if you want repeats of any of those, just let me know.

BTW - - - the hashbrown casserole can be made without the ham as a side dish if you'd like to do it sometime.

Keetha,
Just had to let you know that Matt won 2 tix to the Colts-Chiefs game through his employer, Beazer Homes. He & Natalie were only separated from the field/players by a fence -- on the 20 yard line. He said they gave high 5's to the players as they passed them. Needless to say, he was quite pumped -- especially since they won! KT
